'Hercules and the Erymanthian Boar', the standing naked Hercules with the boar over his shoulder holdsa club to his right hand supporting and balancing to the back of the boar; on square plain bronze base and mottled marble plinth. H.475mm. Bearing the foundry mark Chiurazzi, the top foundry in Naples, Italy, and numbered 2/299. Note: this was Hercules's fourth labour. Eurystheus ordered Hercules to bring him the Erymanthian boar alive. Every day the boar would come crashing down from his lair on the mountain, attacking men and animals, gouging them with its tusks and destroying everything in its path.
