arriving there in 1964. They both held significant roles within the judicial system, he became judge of the Court of Appeal retiring in 1995. They developed a love of the beauty and expertise of Chinese arts and crafts; starting on a visit to the old Portuguese colony of Macau with delight in discovering hidden antique shops in the narrow cobble-stoned streets away from the centre of the town.  Back in Hong Kong they started haunting Hollywood Road where treasures, which had been and were being smuggled out of China during the ‘Cultural Revolution’ and afterwards, appeared for sale.  During their third tour they acquired a share in a pleasure junk which widened their horizons as they visited an ancient fishing village and temple on Cheung Chau island and watched old men paint exquisite designs on fine porcelain.  Our vendor started collecting the stunningly lovely kingfisher feather jewellery, and pieces of stone ornaments which exhibited the amazing imagination of the artists who released the different coloured animals conceals in veins within a lump of agate.  In 1979 she joined a small group touring China and visited the towns of Changsha, Guilin and Guangzhou. They were also lucky enough to have some clients who, recognising their love of Chinese art, were generous with their gifts, to add to the collection.    A 19thC Chinese cricket cage, made of a small gourd with ivory ring collar and cover with inset pierced tortoiseshell grill carved with floral designs.
