‘Water Above, Drought Below’, oil on canvas, signed, dated 2002. 545 x 740 A.B.: "Robert Franken's painting career runs parallel to mine in clay, in its timing. (We are) both Dutch immigrants from the 1960s. His work is well known in Japan, and the Netherlands, but less noticed by the New Zealand public. His world is his own; unique and imaginative, no matter where he lives, but it relates through the generations to Hieronymus Bosch."
