January Antique & Art Auction

Auction Details

Cordy’s welcomes both our valued previous and new clients to our saleroom for 2014. Our first auction presents a rich and diverse offering typical of our monthly catalogues for which we are renown.

Here amongst the treasures and trinkets, rarities and riches you’ll find European wooden figures, tea caddies and miniature chests, Leica and other cameras, microscopes and scientific instruments, Art Deco statuettes, bookends carved by the famous Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson, vintage duck decoys, angler’s equipment and a massive elephant tusk. Besides an immaculate Aubusson tapestry there’s a sampler made by Mary Dickens ‘aged 11’ and a collapsible top hat, a rare SS Rohm dagger and a Daum Art Nouveau glass cabinet vase. If more contemporary glass is your thing there’s an Ann Robinson hand-blown vase. Your garden may benefit from the addition of a pair of truly uncommon large urn planters by the Irish immigrant potter George Boyd, your library grow with the addition of Thomas Gudgeon’s ‘Defenders of New Zealand’ or your display cabinet enhanced by a Royal Worcester vase skilfully painted with beautiful roses by Kitty Blake. Amongst the Oriental Arts we offer two desirable Hotan jade bowls and a seal, early Chinese dynastic and Thai ceramics, Meiji period Japanese woodblock prints and plenty more to entice.

The evening session offers gems and jewels, gold and silver, watches and clocks. Of particular note are a diamond encrusted Russian double-headed eagle brooch with the suggestion that the Faberge workshop was the manufacturer; a Cartier ‘Pasha de Cartier’ gent’s wristwatch and a George III pocket watch with tortoise- shell case. In the collector’s silver there are 17th and 18th century spoons, marrow scoops, Georgian sauceboats and an Irish charger, a collection of Georgian vinaigrettes and a 74 piece cutlery set in the King’s Husk pattern. Our floors are laid with 28 genuine hand knotted Persian and Afghan carpets, rugs and runners that will enrich your home and sit well beneath the Biedermeier sofa table, the Empire style chairs, the Georgian gate-leg table or one of the other 50 items of furnishings to choose from. Light spills on this offering from chandeliers and the outstanding Colza lamp illustrated on the front cover. Finally the evening ends with 66 lots of oil paintings, watercolours, etchings and screen-prints which must certainly present something for everybody. We trust you will enjoy this catalogue.
