Cordy's 50th Anniversary Auction

Auction Details

Cordy's is proud to be celebrating our 50th anniversary and in doing so has managed to bring together an extraordinary auction.

A very special entry is the historically interesting German naval dress sword presented to Oberleutnant Hans-Joachim Rahmlom. He has the fame of being captain of the only German U-boat captured during the WWII giving the Allies access to Enigma code material and a craft from which they could study its design. This was considered sensational news by Churchill and horrific news to Hitler. Read a little more about this in the HERALD ON SUNDAY ARTICLE

The name Longuet-Higgins is known amongst old Auckland circles, originating from England, Major J.E. Longuet-Higgins, O.B.E., M.C. was the Chairman of the London Stock Exchange in the 1930's. Notably a number of the lots in the sale originate from his family seat, Turvey Abbey in the English county of Bedfordshire including the superb George III breakfront secretaire library bookcase, a handsome mahogany chest on chest, a long set of eleven Chippendale dining chairs as well as paintings attributed to the 17th century Flemish artist Jan Brueghal the Younger and the Dutch artist Philips Wouwermans.

The silver offering is unparalleled in our history. The inclusion of over 100 lots of George III period or earlier silver is exceptional. Our main one vendor, now retired, has spent his life time selecting quality early pieces, many from Cordy's auctions. The rare and desirable range from the Queen Anne period and later includes multiple examples by makers such as Paul Storr and Robert Hennell. This is certainly an unprecedented opportunity.

Our jewellery is also exceptional with a superb array of fashionable and stylish pieces including 2 and 3 carat diamond solitaire rings, diamond set necklaces and bracelets, jade, emerald, diamond and other precious gemstone set rings and so much more.

Our New Zealand sculpture and art section includes works by Paul Dibble, Warren Viscoe, Dennis O’Connor, Alison Duff, Elizabeth Thomson, Guy Ngan, Frances Hodgkins, Peter McIntyre and more.

Many other exciting entries from various estates and private vendors including from the Official Assignee; a George III red lacquer longcase clock and an 87 piece principally 18thC silver cutlery service are included into this showcase auction. Artefacts, clocks, oriental, china.
