Welcome to our opening auction of the new year. Numerous estate and private vendors have combined this month to offer fascinating bijouterie, scientific instruments, exotic gaming sets of mah-jong and chess; curiosities and rarities, artefacts, angler's equipment, an impressive astronomical telescope by Watson & Son, a superb Florentine alabaster figural lamp, two attractive early pistols and more. Additionally, in this first section there is N.Z. pottery and glass, Waterford table crystal, Modern Movement decorative arts, a Pratt Ware collection, a Worcester stinton urn, along with a wide selection of Chinese silver, jade, bronzes and ceramics.

The second session at 5pm opens with jewellery; Victorian and Edwardian estate pieces, a large star sapphire and diamond pendant, numerous gold chains, bracelets & brooches, diamond and precious stone rings, necklaces, etc.; followed by pocket watches and wristwatches including Omega, Vacheron Constantin, and others as well as an 18thc Boulle bracket clock. A good selection of silver includes cutlery, tea sets, Paul Storr teapot, novelty vestas, Indian silver. There is the usual varied selection of Persian rugs; furniture includes desks, chests of drawers, tables, Biedermeier items, Chinese rosewood furniture, and an uncommon 1951 "Merlin" motorcycle. The sale concludes with Fine Art including oil paintings and water colours from Hounsom Byles, Christopher Aubrey, Marilyn Webb, Dean Buchanan and others along with a small selection of domestic bronze sculpture.
