oil on velvet, signed and with clippings to reverse. Some mould spotting. 900 x 675mm. McPhee, originally a self-taught painter; was known as the 'Velvet Gaugin'. Born in Australia, he moved to Tahiti where he was taught the technique of velvet painting by American expert; Howard Leeteg. In the 1950s he moved to New Zealand.
