An Arts and Crafts hammered copper candlestick by Arthur John Seward,

tapered strap form with dished sconce and circular domed base, hammered finish with copper rivet construction. Impressed maker's marks. H.275mm. Note: Seaward was based at the Birmingham School of Arts & Crafts for some years. In 1891 he won a medal for a ‘metal photo frame’ in the ‘Co-operative Festival’, Birmingham. By around 1902 he was making Arts & Crafts metalwork pieces on a small scale; these often bear his ‘HS’ monogram Trademark as this candlestick does, standing for ‘Home-Spun’. This stick bears the registration number 392927, indicating the design was registered in 1902.
