Betty Beadle formerly Crutcher (1924 - 2002) coffee pot w applied grape & sun motifs. H.200mm. Distinctive ówl' monogram impressed to side Betty Beadle (1924-2002) was born in Lake Macquarie, NSW and completed her studies at the Newcastle National Art School. In 1953 she studied sculpture with Paul Beadle and David Tolley and ceramics with Madeleine Scott Jones and Ann Douglas. In 1961 Betty was an active member of the Low Show Group, a collective of women artists, exhibiting in Newcastle. The group members were Norma Allen, Mary Beeston, Betty Cutcher (Beadle), Elizabeth Martin, Lillian Sutherland and Rae Richards. In 1961 she won the Hunter Valley Sculpture Prize. Betty migrated to New Zealand in 1965 and married Paul Beadle in 1968 ( this was her second marriage as she was previously married to Col Cutcher a prominent Newcastle accountant) . In 1988, with Marian Fountain, Betty co-founded the New Zealand Contemporary Medallion Group, currently known as Medal Artists of New Zealand. Her ceramic works are marked with an impressed Owl.
