Lot Details
block printed calico fabric with unique overpainted colours, c.1947, signed with the artist's facsimile signature lower right. 420 x 495mm. In 1947, Fairburn was approached by Theo Schoon, the Dutch Indonesian-born artist and photographer, to utilize the tracings Schoon had taken of prehistoric Māori rock drawings from the limestones caves of the South Island. The Auckland Art Gallery holds two companion works.
