Lot Details
Te One (Hōne) Taare Tīkao and Honani Matiu Tikao (1850-1927, tohunga and politician). Shown standing holding a taiaha, wearing a kahu kiwi over a kaitaka cloak with tāniko border. Hoani Tamahika Matiu (1854-1944, traditional authority, Kai Tahu Settlement Committee Executive) holding a tewhatewha, wearing a large whakatipu (dress raincape) over a kaitaka tāniko and rapaki kilt. Postcard images of the same sitters in various collections suggest the date of the image as c.1896-99. 200 x 145mm.
