Lot Details

Kimberley Region, Western Australia, of pressure-flaked white (chert?) with remnant attachment gum. L.85mm. Provenance: Mary Macha*, Perth, Western Australia. Private collection, South Australia, sold at Vickers & Hoad Auctions, Sydney. The Jorgen Lotz Collection. *During the 1970s Mary Macha collected works across the Kimberley for her government-owned shop Aboriginal Traditional Art in Perth. Kimberley points were primarily used as hunting implements, prestige items for exchange, and may also have been integrated into secret-sacred ceremonial contexts. Some of the more recent examples were made not only out of fine-grained stone, but also ceramic and glass.
