rich walnut half-stock with good knurling, steel but plate with acanthus engraved tang, patch-box hinged cover engraved with a stag, action signed both sides, well engraved steel trigger guard tangs and conforming forend tip. Sling eye and inlaid silver metal cartouche to lower stock edge. Heavy 29¼" damascus barrels with triple leaf express sights (200/300/400 yds.) ahead of a panel engraved "Pryse & Redman, Piccadilly, London", a broad (¾") matted top rib with concave rail sides to accommodate a sliding 'tangent sight' (absent), engraved with two scales (1-20 and 1-23) (see footnote 2). In brass bound mahogany case, recessed circular handle to top missing hinged semi-circular bale. With accessories including bullet moulds and brass tipped wooden ram-rod. #6252. NLR Footnotes: 1) The gun-making dynasty of Charles Pryse & Richard Redman that evolved into Birmingham Small Arms (BSA) in the 1860s 2) It is assumed that the rib markings are graduated for ranges up to 2,000/2300 yards. Little accuracy would be expected at those ranges, essentially using the gun as a mortar to send volleys in a general direction for defence, for example of laagered wagons.
