Lot Details

interior scene, posed royal (Indian) family group, watercolour, detailed in Hindi script and dated 1934(?). 420 x 570mm. CONDITION REPORT: Painted on heavy paper with pigments including Chinese White, some pigment appears to have been fugitive (possibly from dampness) most noticeable on the subjects faces; the central figure's face appears to have vitiligo (skin pigment loss). Their costumes retain the appearance of shimmery silk. The architectural elements are painted with overly strict draughtman's-like detail. The backing board of heavy card and the paper is wavy/damp warped. The blue of the draperies are speckled suggesting damp loss to pigment. There's a few watermark spots (left hand tiles front) ( 3cm left of signature). The frame is gold painted rather than gilded.
