Lot Details

KEITH SHACKLETON LTD.ED. PRINT 'MT. EREBUS FROM McMURDO SOUND' signed. 167/350. 375 x 700mm Keith Shackleton (1923-2015) was a British artist, illustrator and naturalist. Shackleton was a passionate conservationist and was related to the great explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, Antarctic explorer who had come within 97 miles of the South Pole at the dawn of the 20th Century. Keith Shackleton is noted for his paintings of landscapes, seascapes and wildlife - particularly of the Polar Regions. This painting was completed during a 1974 voyage to the Antarctic aboard the Lindblad Explorer. In the painting, the active volcano, Mt, Erebus, can be seen in the distance, to the left. The vantage point is McMurdo Sound with penguins seen in the foreground on an ice shelf.
