York Bay with Children Onboard The Good Ship Gwladys, watercolour, signed and dated 1927. 380 x 555. Provenance: The Hursthouse collection. Note: This image shows the York Bay community of houses and Gwladys, a 14 ft. clinker-built boat, recorded as 'probably best remembered' of the various York Bay vessels. 'Mother would fix us a quick lunch and Hal, judging the weather, would set off with three or four young on a calm fine morning for Quarry Point, himself rowing one pair of oars forward, two young with an oar each amidships and helmsman and spare hand in the sternsheets waiting their turn on the midship oars...' Taken from 'Stories of York Bay, A Community Effort' by Ann Patterson, 1983, p.36 by Tudor E. Atkinson. $5500
