A French Sevres porcelain mounted clock garniture by Philippe H. Mourey
Lot Details
the rococo case stamped 'PH Mourey 87', housing a Japy Freres bell striking movement, the pink porcelain dial with gilt and enamel jewelled embellished Roman hours, above a landscape panel. The twin branch candelabra garnitures with conforming porcelain urn columns. H.290mm. Provenance: The estate collection of Prof. G. Dawson CONDITION REPORT: Overall good condition for age. The porcelain elements in good condition with no repair or restoration. Quite a few of the enamel 'jewels' popped off (blue 'turquoises' around the outer edge of the face) and gilt slightly rubbed here and there, otherwise good. The gilding is matt finished in main areas and high polish in detailed areas The Clock: Ormolu gilt case with complex decorative mouldings - shells, acanthus, bead and ribbons, etc, all in good condition with dust overall. Face in good condition. Mechanism runs but may require overhaul/clean to run continuously. Delicate bell strike operates (half hour and hour). Front foot and side feet gilt bubbling a bit. Illegible retailer's name marked to the dial. The finial is a replacement (a finial designed to screw into a wooden item, the gilt doesn't quite match but close) . The frame of the porcelain landscape panel (which incorporates the mask mount below) is slightly loose and has a small split in the left hand side (see photos). That whole panel appears to be held by a single fixing bolt into the interior case (see photo from beneath) Garnitures: conforming and complementary decoration, principally the same as clock. Each 260mm high
