Para Matchitt (1933-2021), Untitled, (Bull), oil on board, signed and dated 1964, 370 x 500mm. Note: 'During the time Para and I lived and worked in Hamilton, he had a fascination with Spanish bullfighting and those like Picasso who depicted it. He often used to do sketches of matadors and toreadors in action. In fact, I believe he did some wall painting for a local coffee shop on this subject. 'Para and I trained together in 1957 as Art & Craft Advisers for the Education Dept. We later worked as Itinerant specialists in the Waikato area, and it was in Hamilton during this time that Para carved this lino block, which he exchanged with me for some of my pottery.'
