time and count-wheel bell striking strike movement, marked 'Rollin a Paris 2383' hosed within a spherical case flanked by putti above an ornate plinth embellished with mask and floral swags, raised on four feet. H.375mm. Provenance: The estate collection of Prof. G. Dawson. The Estate of Lord Citrine of Wembly. Opua, Bay of Islands (sold at Cordy’s 1997). CONDITION REPORT: Heavy. Gilt bronze with Carrara marble. High quality case. Some element missing from top of sphere, replaced with a small gilded figure of a queen, Some element missing from front of case above drama mask, replaced with a gilded windmill. Some element missing from right hand side of case below bird, fixing hole filled with a ? nail head ?. Hole on top of wheel surmounting case suggests element missing? Mechanism runs but may require overhaul/clean to run continuously. Delicate bell strike on hour and half hour works. Serpent hour/minute hands. Roman hours probably repainted. Feet slightly loose.
