The family note: Hans was a very learned man with impeccable taste and a great love for African art; amongst other things. He resided in Ghana from the early seventies through to 1990. During his time there, he acquired a beautiful collection of antique African art. Hans was Managing Director of the world’s largest pharmaceutical company at the time. He was in charge of all of West Africa. Through his position, he was in touch with many high ranking officials and befriended several prominent people in Ghana, amongst them was the king of the Asante people also known as the Asantehene. This gave him access to special ceremonial events, where much of the tribal and ceremonial art was still in use. Through his connections, he was able to purchase some of these very special pieces.
