THE MAHARA MAHARA COLLECTION DECORATIVE & FINE ART
Tuesday, 9 - Monday, 22 July 2024
A private collection of artworks and sculpture, each piece with a special meaning. Vendor's note and link below: https://www.oneroof.co.nz/news/arty-farty-multi-million-dollar-estate-rebuilt-from-the-ashes-of-former-home-is-for-sale-45903 We emigrated to New Zealand in the mid 90's and within a handful years discovered a love of art in New Zealand and started a small collection. I met my partner in the mid 2000's and moved out from the city to rural Clevedon to be with him. Disaster struck in 2010 when we suffered a house fire, the house was burned to the ground and we lost everything, including all the beautiful artworks. It was a tough time as both myself and my partner had been recently diagnosed with chronic conditions and so when we built our new home we decided to start again and find new pieces together. Some harking back to my French heritage and of course some from amazing New Zealand artists, specifically at Collaboration NZ based not far from Whangarei, where we spent time with the artists many of whom becoming our friends (https://www.collaborationz.co.nz/). My mother came out to join us in 2013 and she bought with her some European paintings. Sadly both my partner and my mother passed away 8 years ago and from that time I stopped adding to the collection, and in their honour I named our home 'Mahara Mahara' (Sweet Memories, Maori). In 2024 I am now leaving Clevedon to head back to my city roots and will have limited space, so have decided it is time to downsize and let many of of my items go.
