Lot Details

the swollen shaped central plate to fit over the calf and ankle decorated with a section of raised diamond panels each enclosing Islamic script with remnant damascene silver. The diamond panels outlined with strapwork forming knots between each diamond. Further script of larger font fills panels at the top and ankle sections. The Ottoman arsenal tamğa is stamped at the top of the central panel (see footnote). L.385mm. Three fixing dome rivets remain, one absent to the simply decorated outer plates. Footnote: The Ottoman arsenal tamğa (seal of the Turkic Kayı tribe from whom the Ottomans traced descent) was stamped onto war trophies before entry to the Imperial Ottoman arsenals in Hagia (St.) Eirene, Constantinople.
