Lot Details
the defense consists of eight columns of small undecorated rectangular lamellar plates, that overlap upward to cover the thigh and a large hemispherical plate to cover the knee, the plates connected by mail, along with panels of mail to each side and below the knee, iron studs fixed to the lames at the top and bottom of the outermost columns originally held the leather straps and buckles by which the defense was attached around the thigh. The knee plate is decorated with a remnant damascene silver/gilt medallion that contains an Arabic inscription in cursive script. The mail around the knee consists of a rectangular panel to each side and a triangular 'vandyke' panel below. The mail is constructed with four riveted links passing through a solid one each approx 12mm diameter. Some repairs/replacements. L.450mm; W.370mm approx.
