57mm outer case Birmingham 1836, inner London 1824. Full plate fusée, with freesprung balance, signed and numbered. Signed dust cover. White enamel dial signed Will.m Baird, London, Roman numerals, minute indices, subsidiary seconds dial at VI. Fine matching gold Regency style hands. Hairlines at edge. Gray is mentioned in Jane Austen's novel 'Sense and Sensibility' Mr. Gray, we find, was a real personage, for his name appears in the London Directory for 1814, where he is entered as ‘Mr. Thomas Gray, jeweller, 41, Sackville Street, Piccadilly.’
