Provenance: purchased by our vendor at Sotheby’s Johannesburg 1995. https://www.art-archives-southafrica.ch/HERZOG.htm A companion work from the same auction resold at Strauss & Co, Johannesburg 2018. CONDITION REPORT: Boldly worked in oils with palette knife on canvas board, the board not covered by the paint in some areas. Some craquelure to the oil paint, most noticeably the black. Inscribed verso Heidi Herzog 1966 in black felt marker, probably by another hand. Archival notes mention that she typically signed her works "HH", usually followed by the date. The attribution of this work is based on the fact that Sotheby's J'burg sold this and another similar work as by her in 1995. The gilt frame has some knocks and losses and dirt accretion lower cavetto.
