CONDITON REPORT: Hartigan had bought his own Xerox machine about 1986, and put things he found on it to make direct copies, then taking that copy and wetting it with turpentine in order to make a reverse 'transfer print' on to archival paper; this was then hand-coloured with watercolour inks (a French liquid watercolour product) that proved to include unstable pigments, hence the loss of strong colour in this work. The reverse release transfer process is a Robert Rauchenburg method Hartigan observed and decided to try. Soft yellow, reds, orange and greens remain of the ink watercolour. The printed image remains clear printed on good paper with no deterioration. The image is framed behind Perspex to avoid further fading (cuts out 99% UV). The frame is in good condition. Overall 770 x 965mm
